I had high hopes for this film, great actors, good book, seemingly engaging storyline. But something went awry when i was watching it - i honestly did not care for any of the characters. The seemingly deep relationship between the main character and his wife is reduced to brief moments that deal with either of two topics: she wants a garden and they are having difficulty having a child. Then when he goes to Japan he does no more than look at the girl he is so head over heals for. I mean seriously he cheats on his wife but its with some random japanese girl not even the one hes after! The other characters seem to shift their personalities to easy for them to be believable. The only positive comment i can make is that the scenery and overall setting was beautiful, thats the only reason i watched the whole thing because the story made me want to turn it off 30 mins in. My advice - get the book if your that interested but dont waste your time with this. |
