This is an excellent documentary. Director Ken Burns did a terrifc job of portraying all aspects of Sam Clemmons/Mark Twain, as a writer, a scholar, a husband, a father, and as a human being. You feel like you know Twain, personally, by the end of the film. You share in his happiness, his frustations, and sadness. The photographs and interviews are wonderful, but the music is outstanding! It stays true to Twain's era and gives you a sense of "The American" he was, and always will be. The narration by Keith David is brilliant, as is Kevin Conway's voice for Mark Twain. I'm a lover of documentaries and biogrophies, and found this one to be a favorite! |
