Why did I see this movie?
I knew it wasn't going to be that good. But it kept me cool when the mercury was boiling through the top of the thermometer.
The acting was mostly good. Nikki Reed, who played Mini, did a good job. She also looks great in a bikini. But that could not save this movie. I have to say that Mini did throw us a couple curve balls. But they weren't so far to one side that we couldn't figure them out.
I was hoping this movie would have a bit more depth. Despite itself it did illustrate how shallow life can be when you have everything and all you want is more. The mother just wanted more sexual experiences and booze. The daughter, Mini, wanted to top one crazy antic with another. Freud would probably have said it was just a cry for help.
Alec Baldwin's character, the step dad, was the most believable of all. He's supposed to be the reasonable adult. But he chose to compromise his position.
The movie is described as a dark comedy. I think I was the only one in the theater laughing. OK it was a small crowd. It took some wonderfull shots at Hollywood and the egos that trip over themselves. But it may have been too dark for many people to laugh at.
The best part of the movie was the end when Nikki Reed's character makes a snide remark, at the audiences expense, as she drives off into the sunset. |
