These reviews are unreal! I am so excited to see this movie which opens today in my area. I thought I'd take a look at the reviews. And I have to say, some of these reviews which say that they can't stand the "white power woman" helping in the inner city...are ridiculous! As a white woman who CHOSE to spend years teaching in the inner city, I am shocked at that these reviews, these people are so ignorant. While I was destine to be a teacher, it was "Dangerous Minds" that encouraged me to go to the inner city and easily became my first choice. It was the best learning experience I had ever been a part of. And while I was raised in a middle-class family, I had no idea of the struggles of others. Working in a city near Detroit taught me apathy, compassion and true understanding. I dare those who leave these reviews about crappy inner city school movies, to spend one day in my shoes, breaking up fights, watching drug deals, finding out another student was lost to gun violence, and desperatly trying to change students lives ~ and then see if you couldn't use an inspirational movie! That's why those reviewers are probably not teachers. So, whether or not the acting was good, the idea and possibilities it shares with our youth is worth the $9 ticket! |
