Excellent Documentary covering the African American Punk. I was part of the Punk Community in the Philadelphia Tri-State area and knew of many minorities (Racial, Religous, Sexual) who attended some of the most intense Shows in the early history of HardCore.
I never gave the crowd within the crowd much thought and there had always seemed a welcoming and Open atmosphere. As I listened to the men and women of AfroPunk it suddenly strikes me decades later that we had a sort of "All in the Family" Liberalism that only went so far!! The Documentary is a real eye opener and very entertaining.
I suggest this film to people who are or who have been involved in HardCore and I think you will enjoy a look into people who were not only marginalized by philosophy, dress, and put upon by Jerk Offs out in the World..but also carried all the history of Racial hatred and bigotry. |
