Suffering...You Haven't Seen Anything Yet...
---Jigsaw
Jigsaw, the mastermind behind the most heinous tortures ever perpetrated on film, returns for another round of mind-games in SAW III. The story starts out in the same fashion as the previous installments; demonstrating Jigsaw's genious, and introducing us to a wayward soul in need of the lessons that only those close to death can fully appreciate. At first, we pick up right where we left off: Eric Matthews chained in the cell that was Dr. Gordon's, while his cop friend Carrie searched for him. Both end up dead of course, but not by the hand of Jigsaw...
Enter Dr. Ann Denlon, a lost soul who is drawn into Jigsaw's deadly web by his new apprentic Amanda. Ann's part in the game is simple; keep Jigsaw alive long enough for his latest victim to complete a series of his own tests. If she fails, and Jigsaw's heart rate drops below a certain point, the collar that Amanda has fitted around her neck will detonate, killing her instantly. Needless to say, Ann goes about the task set before her with little choice, hoping that she can keep Jigsaw alive long enough for his prey to make it through the challenges before him.
Jeff is a father searching for meaning and revenge after the death of his son. Jigsaw's game brings jeff face to face with those involved in the death of his son, offering him the choice of either taking revenge, or granting forgiveness by releasing the poor people from the devices Jigsaw has placed them in. Along the way, Jeff is provided clues that will ultimately bring him to the final confrontation with the man "responsible for the loss of his child".
The third SAW does not skimp on gore, twists, or brain teasers. It's as bloody as the other two, but plays a little more to the mind-game aspect; skipping back and forth in time to show you events in the lives of Jeff, Amanda, and Jigsaw, and how those events brought them to this point. This can get confusing, but does not detract from the movie. If you can figure out Jigsaw's game in this one, then you're better than me, cause i didn't see it coming...and I won't reveal much more hear. It's a good horror movie, far better than the Grudge 2, and well worth the price of admission. SAW III may look like the end...but it's just the beginning. Enjoy! |
