here is the bottom line, the plot is predictable, the story line drags on and is very boring at times, the chemistry between the two of them is average, Barrymore's role makes no sense and is so far fetched that I don't even want to get started, yet I really enjoyed the movie.
There are about five-seven great laughs in this movie and really fantastic moments, which make this movie worthwile watching. The songs are hilarious and really catchy. I had seen the movie in a pre-screening, and rightafter several people were singning the songs. It is nowhere in the same league as Notting Hill or about a boy, since it lacks absolute orginiality, yet is memorable due to grant's acting, singning and the lyrics itself. I will buy the soundtrack and laugh about it for months to come.
P.S. I am amazed that no one thought of releasing their Pop Video weeks before the movie was released as a marketing ploy. I guarantee this would have attracted that many more viewers |
