Denzel Washington was the star, and was, as expected, very good. However, the supporting cast really grabs your attention - both good and bad. The most notable was Jim Caviezel who goes from playing Mel Gibson's Jesus to playing a Satanically evil character and does it superbly. The Halle Berry look-a-like female co-star played by Paula Patton was likable but simplistic. On a higher note, kudos to Erika Alexander for securing a sizable part in a major production, a far cry from her Cosby days. And, although there were no visible tears during her crying scene, her emotions were believable. The one major disappointment was Val Kilmer. From his appearance (several pounds above his Batman days), to his acting (amateurish and predictable), his character was quite forgettable. Overall, in my opinion, there were no Academy-Award winning performances, but this was a memorable film with a wonderful concept. |
