Director Jaume Balagueró is a talented man who knows what and how to scare the viewers -- with the right use of shadows, and proper mood and atmosphere; he can put together some fairly creepy scenes. Thus is the case with Fragile, a movie with a slow pacing that actually works in its favor in order capture the right atmosphere. Add a creepy-lookin' ghost and the film manages to deliver some decent chills. Although, the plot isn't the most original, the outcome far exceeds other recent films revolving around the same haunted-hospital theme. It's just a fact that old hospitals (especially at night) are creepy, and movies have used that fact in an attempt to make a successful horror film, but they usually just fall into the typical mold of weak boo-scares and boring characters. Fragile doesn't really go in that direction and actually keeps the audience glued to the next scene. When it was time to reveal the ghost, it wasn't some lame spectral figure, but some creepy-ass lookin' thing that you don't ever want to meet eyes with, especially in an old hospital -- good stuff! This film will supposedly hit theaters sometime in July.
OVERALL
A susprisingly good haunted-hospital flick that delivers some fairly decent chills and a cool-creepy-lookin' ghost. Check this out. |
