Is this some sort of inside joke that Alba's name is "Sam" in several movies?
Whether or not your movie taste usually agrees with the critics, there is one thing we can all agree on: When a movie is not pre-screened for critics, it's because the studio knows it blows.
Regrettably, "Awake" is no exception.
At least it's short...only 85 minutes. But trust me, it's going to feel much longer.
SYNOPSIS
Christopher Hayden has it all...except a healthy heart. He goes under the knife and experiences "anesthetical awareness", i.e., he can hear what's going on during surgery. He overhears a plot by the surgeons to kill him. He then drifts backward in time, examining the past to determine who's trying to do it. Sounds great? Great premise? It could have been, in the hands of a different director and actors.
ACTING
Okay, I love Jessica Alba, but this is a drama piece that requires serious acting chops from the girlfriend of Christopher Hayden. Her name is Sam. Damn, is she named "Sam" in every movie? She was Sam in "Into the Blue" (a movie that revolved around her arguing with her friends in a bikini).
As much as I like Alba, she cannot act. Most, if not all, of Alba's talent can be captured in a still photo. With a weak co-star, they cast....Hayden Christensen? Huh? The guy famous for being a crappy actor? Surprisingly, with two weak actors in the lead roles, this thing just tanks.
DIRECTION
Ummm....the visuals are nice.
SUMMARY
Spare yourself. Worth watching for free on cable. Maybe. |
