Edward Norton, along with Evan Rachel Wood, David Morse, and Rory Culkin star in this off kilter Indy romance drama. Norton plays a "cowboy" in the contemporary California valley who meets and begins a courtship with "Indy teen of the moment" Wood. As always, it's a pleasure to watch Norton work. He completely inhabits every character he plays and you marvel at his acting. Wood continues to explore new shades of rebellious youth and gets better with each film she does. Morse plays the role of her father, tough but trying to understand his kids. He can play these parts in his sleep, he's so natural. And Rory Culkin plays the younger brother charmed by Norton.
What begins as an odd romantic pairing eventually turns into a darker film, one that you might anticipate coming but with a few original twists. Accented by a haunting soundtrack and some lovely cinematography, the film gets better as it goes, winding it's way to a tense finish. |
