I actually ended up at this movie because the one I wanted to see had already started, and I'd say, on balance, I enjoyed myself a lot more than I thought I would. However, I have no problem with cheesy teen supernatural dramas--they are cheesy by definition, and no one expects the acting to be great (it wasn't BAD in this movie, but it wasn't anything to write home about). [The reviewer who said it was like a WB show was sort of right--the fact that Renny Harlin directed it and the sets and cinematography were *genuinely* spooky raised it above that level enough to make for a worthwhile film.] The story is actually pretty unique and I give it a lot of credit there, the premise was different than most things I've seen before. The visuals, as I mentioned, were definitely spooky in all the right ways. For those who've heard that the movie has kind of a gay vibe, there's definitely a sort of homoerotic thing happening, but all the characters ARE straight (the...very hot, incidentally...love interests are female) and the level of homoeroticism didn't seem to bother the teen guys in the theater, who no doubt enjoyed said hot love interests in their underwear (early and often). All in all, it was a fun movie, that delivered everything this type of movie is supposed to, nothing more, nothing less. If you like this type of movie, you'll probably enjoy yourself, like I did. |
