If you're a fan of the video game (fighting and volleyball) and out of this world fight scenes then DOA is right up your alley.
I went into the theater with low expectations but left in the end with a smile on my face.
The acting is cliche, the storyline is dumbed down and simplistic, suspense and peril are virtually non existent. However, where DOA does come through is it's backdrops, set designs, on-screen bods and muscles and by far it's fight scenes.
I have to take my hat off to the Western actors who for the most part, actually perform all of their kicks and punches. They must've trained and rehearsed these fight scenes over and over till they could do them in their sleep.
Most of them actually perform like they know what they're doing.
There is a fair share of wire-work and CGI but the way the fights are choreographed and edited together are splendidly delightful to watch.
This movie captures the essence or the Video Games down to the health bars at the top of the screen to the victory announcer's voice (straight from the game).
This film will not win an Oscar, that's for sure but I honestly found DOA more delightful and actually more FUN to watch than Fantastic 4 RotSS, Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Carribean.
Watch the movie and take it for what it is, a movie based off a video game featuring larges chested women and rippling muscled men beating on one another in a martial arts tournament.
