When I first heard that "The Grudge 2" was going to be nothing like "Ju-On 2", I was angry...and relieved. Angry, because it's a totally different story that made the "orignal sequel" unique. But yet relieved, because it would be something new.
But sadly, this movie isnt entirely new...If you've ever seen the original Ju-On, you'll notice some very familiar characters. Namely the young highschool girls who induce "The Grudge" itself. But that's not to say that what we have is a completely recycled story. There are some interesting bits of drama going on outside the horror, but these bits seem too out of place with the rest of the movie.
I read another reviewer's comment that stated:
"Since you see the ghosts so often in this one, they arent as scary"
This is true, but it also brings me to one of my favorite things about this movie. Not all the scares are "boo" scares. Some of scares actually leave that creepy feeling in your gut. But there are still far too many "boo's" for my taste. While some serious scenes actually made me laugh a little, others left me stunned.
As for the infamous ending...In my opinion, it's not that bad...While it leaves the door open for another sequel, it also leaves an ominous tone to the movie
All in all, I found The Grudge 2 to be enjoyable, but nothing too special. I suggest seeing this if you are a fan of J-Horror movies and/or the The Grudge. I only hope your movie viewing experience was better than mine...Some people just dont shut up during movies. While this isnt the best review you'll find for this movie, I sure hope you've been informed
