While I thoroughly enjoyed "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", and would in no way try to detract or take away from that film, this movie is everything "TSW" wasn't. Although the visualizations are equally stunning, this has quite simply THE GREATEST FIGHT SCENES EVER in a CG movie! (spoiler) When Tifa fought the Sephiroth clone(name?) in the church in the slums, and planted/kicked of the wall, I threw my hands in the air and yelled, it was that amazing!
I am admittedly a huge fan of the whole Final Fantasy series, have been playing since Nintendo,
but I am trying not to write a biased review, so I will admit that if you have not played the game, this movie will probably confuse the hell out of you. I would recommend watching simply because it is so graphically enticing, it's like an orgy for your senses.
I really wish SquareEnix had put a little more time into developing a background for those that had not played the game, but folks... it is a sequel after all, what did you expect?
Final word, if you enjoyed the game, this is a must-see, if you are a fan of CG movies, this is an ABSOLUTE must-own, if ya just wanna watch some killer fight scenes that even the Matrix couldn't pull off in live action, definately check this one out! My only regret, it never went to the big screen. |
