As a New Yorker, it was a difficult decision to even enter the theater to see this movie. I remember these events every day, and was lucky enough that friends of mine who were there made it out alive. Friend's friends, did not. It seems that in one way or another, everyone was affected.
It seems that now most of what people concentrate on when they talk about that day is speculative theories and accusations. That being said, this movie is the oppostite of that. It is rememberace of those who gave their all - including their lives, to help in the most terrible of all situations. It is in fact, a human story, about the good people can actually do, and the good that exists when ordinary people rise to attempt to overcome extrdinary situations.
Some say it is too soon, to watch and remember these events in watching a movie. I say the oppostite in fact. We for the most part have forgotten not only that day, but the results of that day in going back to "status quo" as it was before. Sure, we hear of terrorist alerts on a daily basis, but we should remember how precious life is, and remember the ones we have lost, and how we did come together as a people after such a tragedy.
Of course the film cannot tell the story of all who were lost. That would be impossible. But by taking the stories of 2 who survived, it reminds us that there can be postive to come out of the negative.
All in all, this film is not for everyone. If you don't wish to conjure up feelings 5-plus years past, then don't. No need to torture yourself in that sense. But even if you don't see the film, remember the events of the day, more than the numbers, jokes, or conspiracy theories resulting. |
