I had a slight clue as to what I should expect when I walked into Shoot Em Up. I told my friend, if this movie isn't one of my top 3 favorites that I've seen this year I will be disappointed. I was not disappointed.

Clive Owen never seems to disappoint in an action role, almost taking his character from Sin City and turning him into a meaner badass, if that is possible. This film is so over the top unbelievable that it works, and it is unapologetically right in doing what it does. I don't think that I've smiled that much in a movie in... I don't know how long. The action sequences are meticulously choreographed and shot with such a fervor that you feel as if you are in the room with Mr. Smith as he tears through wave after wave of bad guys.

The movie is everything that I could want in an action movie - bloody violence, inventive death scenes, beautiful women (Monica Belucci has never looked better), and cheesy lines that actually work. There is just enough comedy mixed in to keep the movie lighthearted and fun while still maintaining a plot that has a mild twist or two. The plot doesn't matter, though. This movie is Clive Owen's and director Michael Davis' and they make it one of the most fun ventures to the movie theater in my recent memory.

I highly recommend this film, but make sure you are not going into it looking for something believable. If you do that, you will find yourself saying "yeah, right" more than 100 times during the movie. Enjoy it for what it is.
