I watched the premier of this on 8/15.
I was very intrigued at the thought of Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti acting in a film together. As a fan of both, my expectations were high. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed.
I liked just about every aspect of the movie.
In a Nutshell:
It deals with the struggle between a magician / illusionist and a soon to be King that feels belittled by the fact that he can't figure out how Eisenheim ( Norton ) is doing his tricks/amazing feats. Add to that, the beautiful, soon to be, princess ( Jessica Biel ) that Eisenheim has loved since childhood. The prince's chief enforcer is Chief Inspector Uhl ( Giamatti ). Who, himself, is a great admirer of Eisenheim, but is duty-bound to serve the Prince.
It shows the great push and pull between good and evil. The acting itself makes it a worth-while flick.
You really come away from this movie thinking that M. Night Shyamalan had to have been involved in the direction of it. I would put it up there among the ranks of The Sixth Sense or Signs. However, he wasn't involved in this film whatsoever!
My hat's off to Neil Burger for putting together a great film. Almost worthy of an A+. |
