Someone give Robert Downey Jr.'s agent a raise! RD's recent roles have brilliantly showcased his talents and none to the degree that A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints does. Not since Coppola's The Outsiders has a film so poignantly captured the power of friends and family in a coming of age story. Based on the filmmaker's memoirs about growing up in Astoria in the 80s, AGTRYS depicts memorable characters played by wonderful actors. Chazz Palminteri and Dianne Wiest star as Robert Downety Jr's character Dito's parents and the talent there is palpable. Relative newcomers Channing Tatum and Shia LaBeouf were the perfect fits for their explosive roles as two childhod friends shaped by violence. With the exception of some unusual editing,the film is nearly flawless. Produced by Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, AGTRYS is the perfect film about escape and a modern day period piece classic. |
