Director Dito Monteil had created an absorbing and rich account of his own experience of growing in Astornia Queens. Similiar is style to films like MEAN STREETS, and A BRONX TALE, GUIDE manages to make the well tread coming-of-age genre feel fresh again.
The cast is terrific, with Chazz Palminteri, Diane Wiest, and surprisingly Channing Tatum shining in Oscar caliber performances. Also of note is Shia LaBeof, who handles the lead with substantial depth.
In short, this is a film not to be missed. |
