I was actually a bit stunned as I watched this in the theater! While I know that you can't expect screenplay adaptations to always follow the original work in the book, the changes that were made destroyed the original purpose of the novel. The first movie was brilliantly made; it is one of the best adaptations that I've ever seen. Prince Caspian, on the other hand, couldn't have been farther from what I'd hoped to see. The plot changes were designed to include dramatic battle scenarios that C.S. Lewis would be appalled by, and also increased the level of violence in the film without cause. The most abysmal changes were made in the character development, particularly in reference to Peter. The director seems to have gotten him confused with Harry Potter during his surly, hormonal adolescent years. I do feel that the actors did the best that they could under the direction. A thorough disappointment, and I only hope that the next film retains more of the original intent. |
