WHY?

This movie definitely belongs in the Sci-Fi Channel original movie category. Unfortunately, that's not what happened though. This got an actual theatrical release as part of Horrorfest and was released in the box set with 7 other "Films To Die For".
This movie has every cliche a monster movie could have and it has all the stereotypes. Is it possible the Black Guy (Charlie Murphy, whose a pretty cool guy) could die? I'd say yes and I wouldn't hold my breath for the Hollywood bound blonde either.
The creature is a cheap ripoff of ALIEN too. For a monster movie to be boring it really takes a lot. This movie did all it could to make the movie boring though. Including incoherent attack scenes, a extremely fake and cheap looking creature, and a backstory involving the sheriff accidentally shooting a little girl. Why is she still sheriff?
The script is completely awful too. The reason why the monster is released is beyond stupid and apparently one character can automatically guess everything about the creature and be right.
Overall, Why was this even made? If it had to be made why isn't it a Sci-Fi Channel original movie? Avoid this movie.
