Leave the kids at home, folks, but this one is a must see. There's as much foul language as Pulp Fiction, plenty of Christina Ricci nudity, but whether or not those are pluses or minuses for you, the film is just amazingly good. The acting is superb. I've never been much of a fan of Samuel L Jackson, because his characters seem to be exactly like what he did in Pulp Fiction, but he truly becomes someone else in this movie. He does an outstanding job, and surprise, surpise - he can sing the blues really well. And Christina Ricci melts into her white-trash role so well that I forgot I have a crush on her. But perhaps most of all, I love the movie for two reasons: I haven't seen anything like it - EVER; and the movie has FLAVOR. The style and feel really comes through... Jackson, wearing a wife-beater tank top, smoking a cigarette as he drives his tractor over his ex-wifes flowers sets a mood that sticks throughout the movie. I don't buy many DVDs, but I'll buy this one when it comes out. Great, great, film. |
