*** Spoiler ***
Being in love is not sexual, and redemption of a life is messy. (Actually three lives were saved.)
This movie shows that very well.
Samuel L. Jackson, as Lazarus and Christina Ricci as Rae were amazing in their characters.
Justin Timberlake as Rae's boyfriend also did a wonderful job. John Cothran Jr as Lazarus's childhood friend Reverend R.L. really brought home powerful ideas, and unconditional help to Lazarus. As does S. Epatha Merkerson as Angela.
It's wonderful to see adults acting as adults.
Powerfully told story - sex, drugs, swearing. I think I saw three people leave the theater because it offended their politically correct senses - the filter was removed and we saw raw life as we watched these people live. The wife of the couple next to me kept asking her husband to explain Southern phrases/style of speaking. Parents this movie is on your sons to rent when older list already.
I enjoyed this movie very much, and hope you will also. 31/2 Stars. A-. Wonderful. |
