With the briefest of plot introductions, away we go to the Dead Zone of the sun (no radio communications from that point.) What in the world happened to diminish the sun's power? Was it mad at Al Gore? The casting was questionable---no one over 45, and all actorish looking. Cilian Murphy as a Physicist?? C'mon! To Doyle's credit, the real star here was ours---the sun. He realized a vision of the insane power of its proximity, it's heat & light at every juncture. But Doyle let the CG get away from him. Not being a CG kinda guy, he probably let some "experts" talk him into too much use of special effects. They drowned out plot, continuity, dialog, and generally fried my eyeballs. And how did the monster from Icarus I get aboard? In spite of the excesses, I liked the idea. What might life be like that close to the sun? |
