As a therapist, what I saw was a stroke of genius in the slow emergence of this disorder. I wondered, because it was so perfect, if there was mental health consultation in the writing and directing. I loved the movie, more than anything I have seen in at least a year. The slow emergence of this particular personality disorder was, to me, a stroke of genius. My only regret is the implication of homosexuality. It could give the impression that gay people behave in this manner. The identity confusion of the "borderline" is always prominent, and often what seems to be homosexual, is more the need to merge with and suffocate the "other". Sex is often secondary. It also leaves one wondering about what a grown woman could possible find sexually attractive in a male child, especially this one with his hairless, smooth, skinny body. I was left wondering if it was me, or if it was a close to perfect study of the Borderline Personality Disorder. |
