This movie is both entertaining and thought-provoking raising questions about friendship, loyalty, and love, and how apparently bright people can be so naive. As usual both Dench and Blanchett give fine performances that are compelling to watch. Bill Nighy is excellent as the cuckhold whose complacency helps make room for his wife's bizarre daliance. As strange as the events in this film seem at times, we have only to look at the stream of news events which chronicle this kind of behavior to be reminded that people make absurd choices for no apparent reason; and the drama that ensues can be fascinating to watch. It is movies like this that remind us how little you can know about those around you. It's too bad that more films of this caliber are not made. This movie is well worth your time and attention. |
