If I read one more review about how historically inaccurate this movie is ill beat myself about the head and neck with my socks. First off the film makers made it perfectly clear this movie was NOT based on actual events but rather it is a legend. I read one review from someone who said it was either racist towards indians depicting them as cowards or against the vikings depicting them as monsters. 1) the indians were not cowards as a band of braves come back to help the main character. 2) vikings WERE monsters. They did in fact live to kill raid invade and plunder. No story? I thought it was a great story where a boy though young shows heart and compassion and for it is beaten and left for dead. as an adult gets the oppurtunity to both take vengance and protect those who took him in as a boy and raised him as their own. I left satisfied as I went into this movie expecting action and entertainment. If your expecting Blood Diamond or Gladiator or some kind of epic time period movie then you should not go see it. Its not a bad movie if you place the right expectaions on it. That being an action movie with a story and characters we have not seen together and originality and both design and drive. BTW I thought Karl Urban was great in this. Expect to see him play an orphaned viking fighting to protect his 'new' family, do not expect to see a back story centering on Eomer. |
