A Good History Lesson - but otherwise...

Sometimes the best intentions don't realize a solid result. Such is this case with this movie. Great as a history lesson about(some of) Goya's paintings and European history; but ultimately it left me wondering if the movie would ever end - despite solid efforts from all of the actors.
It wasn't painful - the story just meanders. Trying to do too many things a once, the movie ultimate does none of them superbly. Best as a history lesson, the film dabbles as a comic piece once or twice, when inexplicable silly harpsichord music starts playing as background music. Then maybe it is going to be a love story. Then more history.
Had I gotten to see this instead of having to read my european history text back in school - I would have loved it.
Some good acting and talent... but overall it just didn't gel. |
