An enjoyable, cute film with great actors

I appear to be a minority on here, but I loved this movie.
Michelle Pfeiffer pulls off a convincing character who is falling for a guy 11 years younger than she is. Paul Rudd is charming as her love interest.
Saoirse Ronan is simply amazing. I recently saw her in Atonement, and if I didn't know better, I would have thought that the girl portraying Briony in there and the girl portraying Izzie in this film are completely different people. Saoirse has a totally convincing American accent. She has such a cute character in this film.
This film leaves you with a happy feeling, it's so delightful.
I just wish the mother had been a little less freewheeling to her daughter... when Izzie asked "When can I have sex?" her mother answered, "After College. Or when you're 18." Izzie replies, "No, 15." Rosy says "17?"
Premarital sex is a problem in our society, especially among teens, so that (and the scene where Rosy and Adam are playing around with each other - no sex but plenty of innuendo) are not very appropriate.
There are some cool cameos in the film... Wallace Shawn (Vizzini from The Princess Bride) shows up in a hilarious scene as Izzie's math teacher. Mackenzie Crook (Ragetti from Pirates of the Caribbean) also appears for a couple minutes.
Conclusion: Unlike "Definitely, Maybe" a romantic comedy (really it wasn't funny, it's more of a drama) I also saw recently, I found this film to be quite funny. It also kept my attention and made me think that an older woman and younger man having a relationship isn't that creepy after all.
I recommend it! |
