This film tells a real story. It is not filled with flowery lines and scenes like the vast majority of war films. Eastwood brought the real grim and gruesome nature of war to the screen like no film since Saving Private Ryan. This film takes place in flashbacks, so at times it can get confusing to the casual, non-attentive viewer. If you are going for entertainment purposes only, you will probably be disappointed. However, if you have a general interest in the topic, and know have a little prior knowledge about Iwo Jima, you will really appreciate it.
The acting is excellent, but Adam Beach and his character Ira Hayes (topic of a Johnny Cash song) steals the show. You will find yourself feeling for Hayes, so much that your heart will almost break for his struggles within and with society.
I recommend this film for any person with an interest in history, or any person that has the desire to watch and pay attention to a grand film. |
