To suggest that this mini-series is based on the Jules Verne novel is ludicrous at best. Only the title and the prison excape by balloon can be attributed to Verne; even the escape is flawed with the inclusion of two scream value lasses. It is obvious that this film version was bastardized from the equally offensive 1961 version and that the writers at no time consulted the novel. Within minutes of arrival on the island one of the escapees is devoured by a 30 ft praying mantis; need I say more? For those of you seeking a visual appearance of this Verne tale read the Classic Comics version - this series is awful. In truth I could not stomach more than 40 min. Shame on you Hallmark. |
