If he doesn't get an Oscar for this amazing performance, I can honestly say Academy members are biased.
First, the acting, it's a showcase of how to have great acting.
The movie starts off with great character building on two people, one white, one black. In the beginning, one is an adventurour yet innocent kid, another is a charming militaryman yet not unlike the tribesmen he danced with. But at the end of the movie both changed so profoundly you can see the completely different looks they show on their faces. These two actors are nothing short of brilliant, especially Whitaker who made Idi Amin so human and complex, with so many flavours you begin to understand why the real Amin was able to get away with murder.
The story telling is somehow predictable but it is told with such suspense, actions and love scenes, that there is never a dull moment. I do not want to spoil your fun, but I covered my eyes for several minutes.
It's definitely a movie worth watching. Go see it, you'll not regret it. |
