Michael Douglas' best movie in almost a decade...

Writers, director, or producers of the The Sentinel must have just sat around one day wondering what it would be like to mix TV shows "24" and "CSI", then cross it with "The Fugitive". The idea was just brilliant! The result is an action-packed crime puzzle worthy of recommendation.
No one plays the fugitive role better than Michael Douglas. We saw him in a similar role starring as a targeted billionaire running for his life in the 1997 movie "The Game". In this new flick, he's a highly decorated Secret Service agent looked up upon from his peers and legend throughout all law enforcement agencies for his role in saving President Reagan during the assisination attempt. The ride begins when we see the world of Pete Garrison flipped upside down into a roller-coaster thriller as he races to clear his name.
I think Eva Longoria made an excellent debut on the big screen, though her role is limited (probably a good thing for her first step). I was less impressed with Kiefer Sutherland, who is spectacular as Jack Bauer in Fox's "24". Either his heart wasn't in it, or the dialogue just didn't fit his character. There were also times where it seemed like the scene was cut off too soon, or we missed a few details that didn't make the final cut for the film release.
However, these are minor details that hardly detract from the film's overall enjoyableness. |
