Too much Woody here.

If only Woody Allen would get over himself. This was a charming little piece of fluff, made irritating by the presence of the writer and director playing his usual neurotic shmoe. If only Allen hadn't felt the need to insert himself into the proceedings and INSTEAD had concentrated on building the Strombel character (sorely underwritten and underutilized Ian McShane) and his relationship with Sondra. Johanssen, Jackman, and McShane are all charming, and Johanssen continues to stun. This charcter reminded me of Jamie Curtis in A Fish Called Wanda. Jackman was lovely, as usual, though a bit distant; he almost seems to have other things on his mind. McShane has shown his dramatic and comedic chops in HBO's brilliant Deadwood (now, sadly, in its final season), but wasn't given the opportunity to develop this character.
