Good remake of a overdone movie, however...

Well, if the younger kids want to see a "make 'em jump" movie, this would be it. The last five minutes of this movie were my favorite. It has been neat to see how much Belle has grown sence "Practical Magic", "Lost World" and "Patriot", she played a very real person in this movie- we all know her. This movie will be a better rental for the adults, but if an adult wants some one on one time with their 13 year old, this would be something nice. This isn't a slash 'em / gash 'em, the makers really try to keep you on the edge of your seat guessing. They set up every scene so you think you know what is going to happen. Sometimes the "scare" does happen textbook ... and sometimes it does not. (that part made it fun)
Good points: Realistic Sound effects. The directors use the fear of the unknown and unseen to mess with you. The last five minutes. Refreshing non- characachures, but actual people type charachters (except for the kids).
Bad Points: Sound is REALLY loud. The pacing feels a bit repetative and sluggish in the middle. If you don't get invested in the babysitter, you are not going to care about this movie. You don't see the kids enough to care about their well being, and NO kids are ever THAT good for babysitters.
I saw this in a pretty packed theatre on a special promotional premere with the local radio station 102.7 Da Bomb. It was a good crowd and fun atmosphere to see it, so my advice to people going... bring your friends, or take a teen. |
