I got this DVD from a box of giveaway screeners at work. Most of the screeners I have gotten from work have been very bad B movies, but this movie was amazing...

Jake is a Vietnam War Vet (VWV) who is living his life hiding out in a cabin, in the middle of the woods in the PNW. He heads into town one day to pick up supplies from Kate, a local shopkeeper. Kate tells him some guy was looking for him the previous day and Jake takes off for home. At home he finds, Henry, another VWV that he served with, and his daughter, Lenny. Lenny is a half-vietnamese, half-american little girl. Henry tells Jake that he has lung cancer and has to go back East for treatment and wants Jake to watch over his daughter. Jake says no, but Henry takes off in the middle of the night anyway. Jake and Lenny's relationship starts off with lots of yelling, crying, and throwing things, but eventually learn to love one another. Jake takes Lenny into town to get some supplies, which are separated in 3 boxes. Jake tells Lenny that he leaves 1 box in each of 3 locations in the forest for other VWV living in the wild. When Jake drops off a box, there is either wood or fresh fruits and veggies for him to pick up. He makes the trade, and heads into town where he tries and sells the wood. Linny tells Jake that they should have a picnic and see if the other VWV will come out and join them. With the smell of food cooking and the sound of music playing, the VWV come out of the woods one by one. The last one out is "Red" a tempermental mute. He sees Lenny and spits in her face and runs off into the woods. The other VWV explain that a young Vietnamese girl threw a grenade in his face and that is why he reacted that way. Jake and Lenny head back home, clearly bothered by the day's events. Jake gets drunk and tells Lenny she is going to live with Kate so she can attend school, she refuses, he passes out, and she runs away. When Jake wakes up, he realizes Lenny is gone. He goes out in the forest in search of Lenny because he knows that the VWV have it boobytrapped. While walking through the forest, Lenny sees Red, and he shoots at her, but misses. Lenny runs off, and Red chases after her. Red tries to warn Lenny before she runs off a cliff but she doesn't understand what he is trying to tell her. She falls off the cliff and grabs a tree branch, and while she is hanging there, Red takes aim and she begs for her life and tells him she is not the one who hurt him. Red hears Jake coming, and runs off. Jake rescues Lenny, but she doesn't tell him that Red chased her. Later Lenny and Jake go and get more supplies from Kate and this time they deliver them directly to the people, except for Red, they leave the box in his normal spot. The next morning, Lenny takes a baby lamb out for a walk and runs into Red and tells him that she wants to be friends. He moves toward her, she flinches and the lamb runs off and trips a trap, just as Lenny is about to be struck with a an arrow, Red shoves her out of the way and gets hit with the arrow instead. Lenny runs and gets Jake. Jake tells Lenny to hold his shirt on the wound and runs to get a VWV nurse to help. When they get back to Red, Lenny runs off to get a blanket. As she runs off, Jake yells for to stop, just as Lenny trips another trap, this time a bomb. Lenny dies instantly. Over the next several weeks, Jake falls into a deep depression. One day he goes into Lenny's room and sees a picture she drew of him in front of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC. (A place he swore he would never go) Jake goes to the memorial wearing his purple heart, he salutes the men who died, and pins his Purple Heart on Lenny's doll and leaves it at the memorial. Kate steps into the picture and a raven lands on the memorial, and you hear Lenny's voice say, "Follow the Raven into the shadows, and we will find the light."
