If you're into foreign films (and maybe even if you're not), be sure to check out Tsotsi, a film from South Africa. The story centers on a young man trying to prove himself in a world of poverty and crime but who ends up finding what "decency" truly is. The filming itself is rich with lots of close, tight shots, which, combined with occasional wide angle shots of the township, good lighting, a spectacular soundtrack, and perfect pacing of the plot, provide the audience with a smart, stimulating, and touching movie experience. Definitely a fine choice for an Academy Award. |
