Three warnings to get your head straight:
A) It isn't a Bill Murray movie. Nor is it a Robin WIlliams movie, nor is it a Jim Carrey movie. There will be no zany comedian dominating the screen. The actors actually act their parts. The humor is subtle, yet it flows constantly throughout the movie. I can't recall a single scene that didn't have at least one funny line or event, no matter how small, twisted or ironic.
B) It may insult your inner G-Girl. This might be the reason behind some of the reviews that pan the movie without giving good reason. If you are the controlling type, you might find no humor in the movie at all. For those new daters seeking some insight into your new love interest's true personality, I would recommend it as a date movie just to test your guy or gal's response.
C) It might be too much like your own dating experience. Enough said.
If you can watch it with your head in the right place concerning these points, then it's worth watching, in theatres, on DVD or HBO -- whatever you prefer. In theaters, I rate it between 3-out-of-5 and 3-out-of-4 stars, whatever the heck a "star" is. If you get to watch it free, 5-out-of-5... |
