I admit, I'm a huge dog lover, so the end had me crying...this movie is completely dependent on your love of dogs. There is no human storyline to speak of - and the actors are all wooden beyond belief -- still, the dog storyline is motivational, compelling, scary, and sad. About three quarters of the way through the movie, the scene shifts to focus on Paul Walker's character in Oregon. The movie absolutely stops for 10 minutes until we return to the dogs in the artic. With better editing, the action would not have been broken up -- still -- that dog story is fantastic. Unlike typical Disney fare - not all 8 dogs return. Absolutely not for under 7 year olds; the children around me were mesmerized, but once the animal survival portion begins, there was lots of crying and I am sure many parents trying to figure out how to explain death to their kids who fell in love with the dogs (I can't say more here without a Spoiler)> If you insist on bringing your toddler, cover their eyes when Max approaches the whale. This is a wonderful midwinter movie treat. Go - get popcorn, enjoy, and if you are a dog lover make sure you bring a kleenex - this is a total weepie!!!
