Dirty Still
by BH (movies profile)
Mar 27, 2008
This movie is a cheap, amaturish, disjointed, sensationalized effort to cash in on a truly great movie's success. That being "Training Day". Denzel Washington in that movie exhibited more acting talent than all the actors in "Dirty" combined, and then some. The acting was unmotivated and overdone. The story was confused and exploitive of the overused theme of police corruption.
The killing, the shooting, the cursing, the drinking cops, corrupt lieutenants, and so on and on and on, added up to make for a B rated bad cop/bad cop movie. A movie exposing dirty cops should be believable and contain at least some measure of subtlty if it's going to work.
Cuba Gooding was miscast in this role and uttering "My *****" 100 times throughout the script became embarrassing. Stolen right out of Training Day, this line had none of the cool charm it possessed coming out of the mouth of Denzel Washington.
If Cuba Gooding Jr. thought he could match the work of his colleague, Denzel, then he should have ordered a re-write of the script before he foolishly chose to accept it. Once accepting it, he should have used his box office name to fire the director for making him look so stupid throughout the film.
The movie was dirty all right. Another waste of money and resources comes out of a Hollywood too anxious to reap the benefits of good movies with poorly conceived clones.
