I really wanted to see this film. The subject matter of this film is very close to my own home....my own life and situation. I happen to live with someone that is not blood or family but is out of prison and in a very hectic and rather difficult drug program. This film is very honest, and very raw, something that is very simple yet amazing and powerful all at once.

Is Maggie Gyllenhaal worthy of an Oscar Nomination? Yes. This is one of the best, honest, gritty, strong performances I have seen this year and she is worth seeing the film alone.

However, it takes other Players to make a movie and each and ever character plays a wonderful and insightful part to make you understand and feel what is going on. The brother and sister-in-law; Their feelings about Sherry are very muted and mixed at all times. Sherry's daughter, Ryan Simpkins, literally touched me and moved me to tears. Children are very smart and are easily swayed in whichever direction you chose to direct them in. Without giving too much away, this is one of the saddest things to watch and know that this is the real deal....this is how people are....clumsy and foolish, flawed and cruel, emotional yet stubborn. Feeling isolated and out of place is exactly how Sherry feels and is actualy made to feel and there was one question I could not answer until a very obvious scene....Why is this wonderful woman in the position that she chose to put herself in? Why did she turn to drugs and not attend to and take care of her daughter? Well, you will find out and it makes sense and gives you a reason to slightly understand why someone would go down a negative and dark road.

The film left me with a good feeling for someone that would or may be considered "not-so-good"

I highly recommend this small and wonderful film, I have a continued respect for Maggie Gyllenhaal and her stellar performance, it really is something to see.

Grade: A
