A provocative & unsettling peek into the world of a young drug-addicted woman, fresh out of a 2 year prison term, who's now struggling to "stay clean" & reconnect with the daughter she left behind.
Maggie Gyllenhall is so believable in this role that I wouldn't be suprised to learn that she's a recovering addict herself. Truly, her performance here is incredible.
Without revealing any "plot secrets", I will say that the supporting roles of Sherry's brother & his wife are also unnervingly realistic; at times I found myself so deeply enthralled with these characters that I almost felt like an intruder in their home. Even the child actress playing Sherry's daughter gives an admirable effort. SUPERB ACTING!
****NOT A FEEL-GOOD MOVIE!****
But I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND SEEING IT!
The closest you'll ever come to being a drug-addict without actually being one. |
