I wasn't gonna write a review for this, seeing as how i never write reviews. But after reading some of what these people are saying i felt i had to put in my .02. To the guy why said i'm a white guy and i was ashamed to be in the theatre... what did you expect? THe movie is called 'dave chappelle's block party', which means, to me, a block party hosted by dave chappelle. which is exactly what you got. Obviously dave's comedy is race-heavy, and if you've seen his shows you know what kind of issues matter to him, so my question to you is why did you feel ashamed? because the movie actually raised some issues of significance that you, as a white male, have not had to deal with before?
But as for the movie, it was one of those experiences that makes you feel good about yourself. Only a few times have i watched a movie that just made me feel like i had witnessed something special. This was one of those. The vibe at the block party was chill, and you got to see the off-stage personalities of some of the most civic-minded, conscious rappers and artists around. Was this movie intended to be a comedy? In a way yes. But i think it was moreso intended to be an affirmation of what this country is all about... speaking for what you believe in, enjoying life, and maybe making a difference along the way. Regardless of whether you like the artists, the message is clear. Open your eyes everyone, there is more to america than white middle class. You may think i'm a wigger or tryin to pretned i'm black or whatever but that is not the case. I'm simply a white dude... who gets it. thats it and thats all.
go see the movie, you won't regret it |
