Just reading the reviews of this movie is a window into some interesting social commentary. It seems most reviewers are rating the film very highly (A level) or very poorly (D or F level). That is generally the case when anyone is unapologetic about their opinion especially on a subject as incendiary as racial relations in the US. Like many of the negative reviewers I expected good music and funny Dave Chappelle going into this movie. However, I am open-minded enough to be open to suprised with an element I did not fully expect. This is a movie that is about as funny as it can be and still have a real idea driving it. Dave Chappelle is not comfortable being seen purely as white folks' entertainment and this movie is partially a test to see if his mostly white audience will let him be that and right now it seems he's running 50-50. For all you Chappelle show fans, contemplate Dave's signature tagline image of him counting hundred dollar bills while still chained in shackles... I smiled, I laughed, I cringed and I actually had a few thoughts as well - Imagine that a movie that makes you think.......... |
