I saw the previews for this movie on TV and thought: wow! That seems totally interesting...like something original I haven't seen yet. Some of the synopsis' on the internet were very vague when describing this movie, so it made me a little curious.
On opening night, I could count the number of people in the theatre on one hand. I thought: uh-oh...maybe critics were right with this harsh D rating.
After I seen the movie, all I can say is: D!?! Are you fricken joking me?? Not only was this movie innovative, it carried many aspects of a good movie.
The acting was done very nicely in my opinion. I have to say I HATED Camilla Belle in "When A Stranger Calls" I thought she was horrrrible. But in this movie, well! She must have learned a thing or two. I LOVED the deaf character, she played it so damn WELL!
Elisha Cuthbert is pretty darn good also!
One can go on blab blab blabbing the abuse of a teen girl and what she will do to get out of it. But what I really loved on screen was the chemistry between these girls. They totally hated each other and things change throughout the story. No words needed, each scene was just beautiful with the two of them.
There are some taboo ideas in here--with the dad's sexual abuse, but I think as long as you have an open mind, it won't do you any harm. It is not explicit and the director uses these effects tastefully. The fact that the director was a woman, totally made this movie better.
The music was beautiful and that made it all the better. Visuals were superb and overall, I'd say this movie was very contemplative, with an ending that makes you say, Hmmm..It gets a little more obvious as the time goes on, but it's well-deserved.
This is no comedy, or a Lifetime movie in my opinion. It's a little deeper than that, and if you appreciate movies like so, then I wouldn't miss this one. |
