I'm a muslim, and I was actually excited to see this movie, thinking it would offer unique and much-needed insight into the religion which spans cultures, races, and national boundaries. Not just what Muslims believe, where they live, etc. but what makes them human. And, in the end, I hoped it would show that for all the different nationalities and religions in this world, at the heart of it all, we're all very similar.
If you're looking for that, too, don't watch this movies.
It has a crass (and STILL not funny) sense of humor, poor direction, and horrendous pacing. It does nothing but paint the most ridiculous of stereotypes about two groups, really--Muslims and South Asians (Hindus and Sikhs as well). Think Kwik-E-Mart Apoo from The Simpsons (except not as funny).
About three quarters of the way through you're forced to admit you will likely not find the movie funny and hope you may at least find the message Brooks is trying to convey. I at least couldn't find one. |
