Good Documentary

With only 6 yahoo user ratings and no reviews, this movie has been overlooked as much as a pimple-faced redhead on prom night.
Who knew that in a matter of years, she would flower into the vixen that made all your sexual fantasies come true? Who'd have guessed that you would have amazing chemistry and develop a close friendship, or that she would tell you she loved you, that you would move to the west coast to get an apartment together and then after a week she would break up with you...
Something about her needing more space or not really feeling 'it'. But I digress.
As far as documentaries go, this is a good one.
It tells the story of Jerry Harvey an eccentric, obsessive, manic-depressive cinephile, who lands a job as head programmer for Z Channel. Z Channel was an early cable channel that started in the Los Angeles area in the late 70's. They aired movies in their full length, with no commercial interruption, during a time where video rental stores where non-existent.
There are a bunch of Hollywood types like Robert Altman, Quentin Tarantino and Jim Jarmusch, to name a few, who add their insights on this man's tragic story and the phenomenon that was Z Channel.
The tragedy involves Harvey shooting his 2nd wife and then killing himself around the time of Z Channel’s demise.
The movie also references a bunch of old and obscure movies which is a nice bonus for those of you who are movie fans. |
