Why didn't the Internal Affair rock the American theaters few years ago, while the Departed, with the almost same storyline but replaced all the so-called super stars from Hollywood, can become a hot film at American box office now. I have to admit this film is as great as the original one, but if you were shocked by all the grand twists The Departed has, you would have loved the same story of Internal Affair. But why didn't it released big in America? Was it because they were all asian faces in that film, which made it less well accepted in the American market?
Now that the same film is remade, with all the familiar white faces and familiar setting, and people are easier to accept it? and started to hail it as the next Oscar hot seat? The "foreign torelance" of this market is too interesting.
Also, what was up with the chinese gangs in this film? A way to show appreciation to the Asian ppl? "oh, I got your idea, so I give some of you a few minutes in the movie?" If they are fine with that, good, they can do whatever they want. However, they should at least find someone who speak chinese WELL! their accent were so Americanized and it sound exactly the same as how american people trying to speak like chinese people when they are making fun of them.
So, what is it now? What is it? trying to tell the ppl around the world that IT IS OK TO IMITATE CHINESE IN A FUNNY WAY?
Ok...this is a movie review..besides all hte unethical issues of this film, I would be unbiased and grade that it is a good movie overall, but please bring your mature mind to watch this film, as well as a recognition to the source of this film... ask yourself why now you feel comfortable to watch the same film with American actors while few years ago you didn't, or you didn't even hear about it? Is it because Americans would not be interested in a film like this with Asian people in it? or is it because the movies/production companies think you guys won't like it? |
