As this film demonstrates, it's not easy making films. Especially on low budgets with first time directors. There are some technical deficiencies here, odd camera angles and the occassional slipshod focus. A good movie can overcome those obsctacles, but a film without a consistent tone is pushing its luck. Hanging precariously between romantic comedy and John Waters campfest, Adam and Steve swings wildly from soupy sentimentalism to full on musical numbers. Parker Posey and Chris Kataan, the brand name actors fill there roles, but writer/director/lead Craig Chester doesn't have the chops for this big a part. For the record, I'm a big Pink Flamingos fan, but this film sorely missed Divine or even Ricki Lake. |
